Professor Huang Yu impressed the Selection Committee by his tireless contributions to service the Department of Journalism, the School of Communication and the University at large.  Professor Huang has maintained a very impressive service record over the years and shows great enthusiasm in making a contribution through participation in special projects, task forces and committees at various levels. As Head of Department of Journalism, Professor Huang contributed significantly to the growth and development of the Department. In preparation for the 3-3-4 academic reform, Professor Huang has devoted great efforts in restructuring the Journalism Programme to meet the rapidly changing needs of the industry, enabling it to remain in the forefront of an increasingly competitive field.

Professor Huang plays an active role in enhancing the visibility and image of the University through the organization of various activities. The establishment of the Pulitzer Prize Winners Workshop, which advances journalistic education and practice in the Greater China region, exemplifies Professor Huang’s determined efforts to bring an idea to fruition, which has helped to heighten the community’s awareness of the University’s newest initiative and developments in journalistic education.  As Executive Coordinator of the Taskforce for the 40th Anniversary of the School of Communication, Professor Huang organized a series of celebratory events with great success, fulfilling the role of fostering closer bonds among alumni and within the industry and community.

The service contributions of Professor Huang to the School’s relocation to the CVA Building are also highly commendable. As the Chair of the Relocation Task Force Committee, Professor Huang plays a significant role in leading and driving forward the relocation project, which faced numerous challenges. With his fortitude, perseverance and unswerving determination, Professor Huang led the team with high morale to overcome all challenges and achieved the desired results in schedule with the timeline. In addition to all these, Professor Huang has developed many internship programmes and frequently arranges study tours to enhance students’ learning experiences. He is instrumental in organizing forums and conferences to cultivate an intellectually stimulating environment for his colleagues. Professor Huang renders valuable service to the professional community, generously sharing his expertise with the wider public. As Associate Director of Graduate School, Professor Huang also spent great effort in managing the graduate studies and promoting the University courses in the mainland and overseas.  

Professor Huang has exhibited enthusiasm and commitment to serving the Department, the School and the University. The Selection Committee commends Professor Huang for his outstanding service and recommends him for the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Service.
