The English-language journalism concentration moved from teaching for local English media alone in the mid-1990s to emphasise also international news, renaming itself International Journalism in 2004. A year later the MA in International Journalism Studies gained approval from the university, opening in September 2007. Students of the MA in IJS benefit from our Departmentˇ¦s long experience in journalism in general and in English and international journalism in particular, and we are happy to see them working to preserve and extend our cherished tradition.
The Programme The MA in International Journalism Studies degree is an internationally recognized, full-time one-year course offered by the Department of Journalism. The programme provides academically based professional postgraduate studies in the field of international journalism with a particular emphasis on the pan-China area and the wider East/Southeast Asian region. Taught by both local and international senior academics and practitioners, the course examines media systems, news production and content and their interplay with international political, economic, social, and cultural forces. The programme also has a strong applied component, with professional training in the skills of international news writing and reporting as well as new media technology. |
